About Genuine Leather

Leather is a natural material. Visible variations in colour, pore structure, thickness, and natural markings are characteristics of real leather — not defects. These unique qualities are proof of authenticity and are part of what makes each piece individual.

General Care Instructions

  • Genuine leather has its own natural scent — this is normal and will mellow over time
  • Avoid wearing leather in heavy rain where possible
  • If your leather gets wet, wipe immediately with a soft, dry cloth and allow to dry naturally at room temperature — never use a hairdryer or radiator
  • Keep away from direct sunlight and excessive heat sources, which dry out and fade leather
  • Do not store leather in a plastic bag — always use a breathable garment bag or hang in a ventilated wardrobe
  • Darkening may occur over time on areas that come into frequent contact with skin (collar, cuffs, pocket openings) — this is a natural characteristic of genuine leather
  • Surface abrasions may occur with regular use — minor scratches can often be buffed gently with a fingertip
  • For leather jackets: avoid sitting or driving for extended periods with the front zip or buttons fully closed, as this can cause stress on the seams

Cleaning

  • Do not machine wash or dry clean genuine leather garments
  • Wipe down regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove surface dust
  • For marks or stains, use a slightly damp cloth and wipe gently — never rub aggressively
  • Use a specialist leather cleaner for deeper cleaning — never use household detergents, alcohol wipes, or baby wipes
  • Always test any cleaning product on a hidden area first

Conditioning

Leather is a natural material that needs moisture to stay supple. Apply a quality leather conditioner every 3–6 months to prevent drying and cracking. This applies to all leather garments including leather pants, leather skirts, leather dresses, and leather jackets. Apply with a soft cloth in gentle circular motions, allow to absorb, then buff off any excess.

How to Iron Leather

Applicable to smooth leather only — do not iron suede or nubuck leather.

  • Set your iron to the lowest heat setting — no steam
  • Place a clean, light-coloured cotton cloth between the iron and the leather — never iron leather directly
  • Do not use a dark cloth on light-coloured leather
  • Press gently and briefly — do not hold the iron in one place for more than 2–3 seconds
  • Check the leather after each pass and allow to cool before repeating
  • Apply a small amount of leather conditioner after ironing to restore moisture

Suede and Nubuck Care

Suede and nubuck leathers require different care to smooth leather:

  • Use a specialist suede brush to remove surface dust — always brush in one direction
  • A small amount of shaving dust from the processing of suede/nubuck may transfer to clothing initially — brush gently from top to bottom with a dry brush to reduce this over time
  • Never use water or standard leather cleaners on suede or nubuck — use products specifically designed for these materials
  • Do not iron suede or nubuck

Storage

  • Always hang leather garments — including leather pants, skirts, and dresses — on a wide, padded hanger where possible. Never fold.
  • Store in a cool, dry, ventilated wardrobe away from direct sunlight
  • Use a breathable garment bag for long-term storage — never plastic
  • For leather bags, stuff with acid-free tissue paper to maintain shape during storage

Professional Care

For significant stains, damage, or restoration, we recommend taking your leather garment to a professional leather care specialist. Do not attempt to repair major damage with unsuitable products.
